Support Small: Showing Love to St. Louis Area Businesses

Support small St. Louis area businesses this season and all year round!

Ever since my first job (with the exception of babysitting-but maybe that does count?!) I’ve had the pleasure of working for small businesses. Having the opportunity to work closely alongside the owners is an opportunity most don’t get, but should.

Watching the hours and love that goes into running a business, especially women- and mother-owned, really makes you appreciate small businesses that much more.

Here is a list of small businesses in STL to keep in mind when shopping this holiday season – and frankly – all year round.

Located on picturesque Main Street St. Charles sits women- and mom-owned apparel & gift boutique FR and Company. Owner Ashley Jaswal carefully curates (and designs) products that are for every woman, at every stage in life. From the perfect gift selection, to shoes, to clothes ranging in sizes to include plus, there truly is something for everyone.

Previously located in Ladue, the pig has recently moved to Town and Country into a beautiful new space off Clayton Rd. Make sure pop in and get ready to go “hog-wild” buying literally everything they carry. From home decor to self-care you’ll find something for everyone, and totally a few things for yourself!

When you’re done at the Spotted Pig, head next door (down the road at the corner of Clayton & Mason) to J.A. Whitney. Mother/daughter-owned, they have carried unique, affordable, and priceless gift items since ’94. From personalized painted piggy banks, to barefoot dreams, to the perfect hostess gift, they’ve got it all for a one-stop-shop.

“Where did you get your dress?!” is my favorite question. And if I’m wearing something unique, classic (can be worn by your 16-year-old and even you can borrow for a night out) or the latest style, my answer is always Paper Dolls. With three locations, each carrying something a different, you’re sure to find the perfect outfit for any occasion. Needs shoes and jewelry to go with it? They’ve got you covered!

I mean – come on, it’s a STL staple! From working out of her home, to a small shop off Manchester, to moving into a bigger space just down the road, they continue to be my stop for unique gifts from engagement to welcoming that new babe to the family. Woman and mother owned, you’re sure to find the perfectly curated gift that’ll have everyone asking “where did you find this?”.

Ok, Ok I know what you’re thinking “uhh..they’re a florist for weddings and big events” but if you haven’t heard yet -they just moved into the most beautiful space and now have a small boutique up front! You can now shop for blooms to fill your home and shop for a little somethin’ somethin’ else. With a 20 year legacy lead by Barb, with new partners joining the team expanding to retail, social media, workshops and more, Bloomin’ Buckets is a STL staple.

I’m addicted to this place. When you walk in you’re greeted with gently used toys & big baby items (swings, strollers, play gyms). Beyond that are rows of clothes ranging from baby – to toddler – to young kid. Throw in maternity clothes, shoes, and new items – you’re set for the holidays! I love the variety and the higher-end, gently used clothes that don’t cost me and arm and a leg.

SO cute – and covers all of your bases. Located in Clayton, it’s a full service gift shop that offers an assortment of gifts, accessories, baby, children’s, home decor and much, much more! Want something personalized? They’ve got you covered there, too. If your’e in the mood to let loose, head on in – want to sit on your couch and support with a glass of wine? Head on over to their website.

This vintage chic boutique is mother-daughter owned and specializes in painted vintage furniture along with accessories for your home. If your’e looking to do a little re-vamp, keep this STL gem on your list!
