Mommy Needs Time Alone!

2

Don’t feel guilty when you realize that mommy needs time alone!

…. Mommy Needs SOME TIME … time to herself.

I feel like I am catching myself saying this more and more … call it the winter blues or what have you … but I’ve noticed myself needing and yearning for more time to myself. To be with myself … sometimes I feel like I’m about to break!!!! My attitude feels so cold, at times, honestly …

24 hours a day … 7 days a week … I am Mom … I am wife … but, when am I myself? I am usually doing things for everyone else all day, every day (yes! I know this is what I signed myself up for when we had kids and! When I got married) … don’t get me wrong! I LOVE MY LIFE. I’m so thankful for my family!  But, I’m starting to think to myself … what do I want to do? Who am I, really?

… sometimes, I just honestly want time to myself. By myself … to do whatever I want … when! I! want!

… is that selfish? Is this like a mid-thirties thing? I’m diving more into figuring it out …

… I am rarely by myself, which is a blessing, but I’m finding that it is getting under my skin.

I was recently told that I need to practice “self-care.” What does that mean? What does that look like?

I’ve started really paying attention to what makes me happy … what brightens my mood … and! Thankfully, I have the best husband who gives me grace and is so understanding when these moments happen.

Here are a couple of things I do for my “self-care”:

  • Waking up early in the morning– I am realizing that getting up at the same time as everyone else in my household does NOT start my day off well. I need that time where I don’t have anyone asking me about anything … where it’s actually quiet in my house (cause that is a rarity! ) I’m still trying to wake up even earlier but, starting with 30 mins before the first kid wakes up is a pretty attainable goal!
  • Getting my favorite drink! If you know me, you know I adore a good drink (non-alcoholic and! alcoholic! Let’s get real …! ). I really enjoy getting my favorite energy tea after dropping off the kids! It makes me happy! The taste of it makes you feel like you are literally on a beach somewhere in the middle of winter!

  • Working OutHOTWORX. This is seriously the only workout I can stick with. Going into a hot 125 degree sauna by yourself to focus on getting yourself healthy is something that really makes this mama happy! I love doing Hot Yoga, Hot Pilates and Hot Blast there. After I get done I feel like I can conquer this world that can sometimes REALLY get on my nerves!

  • Facials! For my birthday in November my amazing husband got me a gift card to get a facial at my favorite massage spot! When I tell you … the lady who does the facial there has the hands of an angel … Lordy!!!! Her facials are an experience … matter-of-fact, I have a membership there now so that I can get this “me” time on a monthly basis. It is so rejuvenating …. I never want it to end! It’s super relaxing!!!

I feel guilty sometimes when I am having a hard day … and when I’m over it. When this Mommy just needs a break from being asked a million questions, dealing with tantrums, coming up with a dinner menu (one for us and one for the kids cause we KNOW they aren’t going to eat what we’re eating!), figuring out sql code for my job to pull the next internal audit request, being Room-Parent … just trying to do it all and do it well so that my kids and my husband are SO loved and SO cared for- as they should be ….

… Mommy just needs some time …

What are some things that you do

to just have a moment to yourself?

Kelly W.
Kelly was born in Los Angeles, CA, and raised in her hometown of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma (GO BA!) where she graduated as a Tiger. Soon thereafter, she moved to Columbia, MO, and attended The University of Missouri-Columbia (a Tiger again!). She graduated in 2009 with her degree in Actuarial Science with an emphasis in Finance. While at Mizzou, she met her husband. Once they graduated, they moved back to St. Louis. They got married in St. Lucia in 2014 in front of all of their closest friends and family after being together for 5 years! A couple of years later (2! To be exact!) they had their oldest son! During the pandemic they had their youngest son and feel their beautiful family is complete! Being a Mom is the most challenging and rewarding job! Kelly truly LOVES and adores her boys! They are blessings and her heart! After working super hard at her job for the past nine years (almost a decade whoohooo!), she attained her dream role! She is a Data Engineer specializing in Data Integration. What is that? …maybe one day she will talk about it! She loves her job- it’s super challenging!! She is not the biggest fan of being on-call once a month, but! Hey! Sometimes you gotta do what ya gotta do! As mentioned earlier, Kelly loves St. Louis … she lives in Ballwin and adores her neighbors and neighborhood. Her family is the most important thing to her. They love doing everything together! They love taking their boys to parks, water parks (especially with summer! Whooo! )… pretty much any place that they can get all of that energy out!! They have energy for days … weeks … heck! She just needs 5% of it and she’d be set for the rest of her life! She and her husband also find it important to have their alone time- they love dates! Thanks to her super supportive and loving MIL, they get to go on dates from time to time! They love trying new spots to eat (Brass Rail is a new favorite with the best martinis!), going to the movies and traveling! Kelly’s looking forward to sharing her thoughts on a variety of topics and she is hoping you will be open to listening and maybe discussing!
