The legacy of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is unmatched. In honor of the upcoming holiday in his name, here is a roundup of local activities!

Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration at the St. Louis Art Museum

The annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration returns in January as an in-person event in the Museum’s Farrell Auditorium. Inspired by depictions of Dr. King and the Civil Rights Movement by Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer Moneta Sleet Jr., local Black artists will respond to Sleet’s photographs through their original performances.
 
The evening will also include a talk by Tabari Coleman, a community engagement moderator whose focus is on creating space for constructive dialogue across the St. Louis region.
The theme for this year’s celebration is Artistic Expression Uplifting the Movement.
 
Although the event is free, advance tickets are recommended.
 
 

MLK Celebration at the History Museum

Celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. throughout the holiday weekend with a variety of experiences at the Missouri History Museum. Families are invited to join us on Saturday and Monday for youth activism workshops, meaningful conversations on race and social justice, storytelling, movement, craft workshops, and day of service opportunities. On Sunday afternoon, all are invited to a keynote address, a brief musical performance, and an all-levels yoga class set to live gospel music.

Small Hands … Big Difference at Mirowitz

Small Hands … Big Difference will bring our community’s youngest social activists together for an opportunity to answer Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s challenge that we “do something for others.” Join us for a morning of song and movement, social action, a PJ Library station, and the chance to get a little messy, too.
 
 

Martin Luther King Jr. Day at Edwardsville Children’s Museum

Every year on the third Monday in January, our country honors and celebrates Dr. King’s life. Join us to create peace art and add your dream to our mural. This event is free with admission, which is $8.00 per person and free for kids under 1 year.
 

 

Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Concert at Powell Hall

The IN UNISON Chorus and Director Kevin McBeth join the SLSO and Music Director Stéphane Denève for a special tribute honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. This one-hour concert is FREE. Ticket reservations are required.
 
 

 

Art for Justice: Family Sunday in honor of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

You’re invited to the Museum every Sunday for hands-on art activities that include special interactive components for kids within the galleries. Each month’s activities focus on a different, family-friendly theme.

Join the Museum for this celebration of the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and inspire the next generation of artist activists.

Storytime begins in the galleries at 2 pm, featuring Goodnight Racism by Ibram X. Kendi, illustrated by Cbabi Bayoc.

54th Annual MLK Day Parade

The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Committee of St. Louis, MO. will be celebrating its 54th Observance in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on the National Holiday, Monday, January 16, 2023. The committee aims to deal with and drive out the three evils: Poverty, Racism and Violence, promote Voter Registration to help to create the beloved community for which Dr. Martin Luther King gave his life. 2023 Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Observance in Fountain Park

On Saturday, January 14, the Fountain Park-Lewis Place Committee will host its sixth-annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day observance. The event begins at the Martin Luther King statue in Fountain Park, with a commencement at 9 a.m. and a peace march following at 9:30 a.m.

 

We Can All Serve: MLK Food Drive

When: Ongoing until Monday, January 31, 2023

Where: All St. Louis Public Library locations

Where: In support of the St. Louis Area Foodbank – donation bins at all St. Louis (City) Public Library Branches.

The holidays may be over but hunger is still an epidemic among our neighbors, friends, and family struggling to buy necessities such as heat and warm winter clothes. In the spirit and memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., St. Louis Public Library is proud to launch a food drive in his honor.
