A Love Letter to a Lost Friend: The Rock N Play

1

Dear Rock N Play,

It is hard to describe just how special you are to our family. From the moment I saw you cuddling a friend’s child I knew I had to have you. Your sleek and compact design was a great draw. Your ability to fold up and travel was something to behold. I immediately placed you on our registry as soon as I got pregnant and even exclaimed with glee when I opened you at the baby shower.

In our home you have seen and experienced many things. You held my babies from the day they came home until they were able to roll over. You rocked and lulled them to sleep countless times. You safely held them when I was too tired or sick to hold them and I rocked them with my foot. You kept them safely at my side while I made dinner, folded laundry, chased my toddler and so much more. You had the tears of my babies and mine fall on you. You traveled all over the country as we went to visit family.

It sounds silly to call something made by Fisher-Price a part of our family, but you are. To think about the fact that I can’t use you with my child due in September is heartbreaking. To think something that I so heavily relied on and trusted could be unsafe is scary and upsetting. I had planned on getting an upgraded version of you for this next baby and those dreams were crushed by the surprising recall that says you’re unsafe. This baby will not get to lay in your inclined comfort. I’m sure we will find something similar but it won’t be the same.

Goodbye old friend, you won’t be forgotten.

Love,

A Mom

  1. The pain is real! How scary when the baby items we rely heavily upon are deemed unsafe. Good luck finding a replacement!
