City Serenity

Summer is finally here. The kids are out of school, routines are set aside and in spite of being a gigantic six months pregnant, I am ready to get out and enjoy what St. Louis has to offer for families and children. My kids love to explore St. Louis as much as I do, especially if it involves treats at a local coffee shop and a latte for me!

My favorite place so far this summer has to be the City Garden along Market Street in the heart of downtown St. Louis.  There you will find wading pools, gorgeous fountains and a spacious splash pad for the kids. For a mother with young children, I am usually sleep deprived and in need of a little serenity.  The City Garden offers a peaceful, safe environment and hours of water fun for my children. There’s even a lifeguard just to make my job a little easier.  And the best part, it is FREE.

The new playground at Kiener Plaza is now open as well just a short walk east of the City Garden with its own splash pad and green space. With hot humid summers in St. Louis, we are probably going to be here a lot.

And this year, I discovered there is a Kaldi’s Coffee Roasting Company in the City Garden with a shaded patio overlooking a beautiful pool. Not that with a four-year-old and three-year-old, I am going to get to sit out there for any amount of time!  My kids love popping into Kaldi’s with its colorful art sculpture at the main entrance to grab a muffin or pastry before hitting the pools at the City Garden for a few hours.

So if you are looking for an easy activity in the heart of the city, grab some sunscreen, extra clothes for the kids, and maybe a picnic lunch and head over to the City Garden.
