Fall Fashion Must-Haves!

It is September … time to bring on the Fall Fashion Must-Haves!

Oh, Fall. You’re my favorite season. And the fall fashion must-haves that have been stored away for summer finally get to make an appearance!

Sweaters, boots, and hats for Fall!

As this post is being written, the temperature is a toasty 97 degrees (plus humidity – we’re suffering, y’all), but that isn’t stopping me from seeing fall fashion within reach. Bam! Before we know it, the sun will set earlier, the pumpkins will takeover my decor theme, and I’ll be reaching for chunky sweaters and beanies on the daily.

Here are a few key pieces to keep on rotation when fall settles in for her glorious season.

Scarves – thinner ones for layering on warmer days. Or if you don’t want your scarf to steal the show. Blanket scarves for making a statement, keeping warm, and also wearing as a wrap. So versatile. Definite must.

Boots – LOVE a good boot. Every mama should have a go-to pair (or 10, shhh, don’t remind my hubby) that can be easily dressed up for fall, holidays, or pulled on for quick trips out the door. Personally, I can wear boots all year round. Tall, over-the-knee, or ankle height – count me in! Fur-lined is a bonus if you live where it snows. It’ll keep your feet from completely freezing when you go out to play in the snow. Ankle booties are a must for warmer climates. Helpful tip: a low-profile heel says effort without killing your feet.

An oversized sweater – the chunkier, the better! Knitted, pull on and go, leggings’ BFF. Styled with the boots mentioned above, and it’s a whole look— just like that. If a sweater isn’t your first sign that fall fashion is coming, I don’t know what is. Recent trends include a cold shoulder or cut-out pattern at the shoulder, sleeve, or neckline. Open backs, too. Any sweater that feels comfy and wears well is ok in my book. Bonus points if that oversized sweater survives a cycle through the washer without a snag!

Dark jeans – A closet staple no matter the season, in my opinion. But especially for the fall when the warmer tones in the wardrobe come out to play. A clean, dark wash just makes an outfit look ever so slightly more polished. When trying out new jeans, take into account the stretch factor. For some stretch built into the jean, keep in mind, they will break in. If they pull on fresh and feel a tad loose or already comfortable in the spots you’d expect, they may wear looser by the end of the day if you do a lot of walking or sitting to standing.

Corduroy mini skirt – calling all 90s fans! This is a style I am here for! Colored tights and a sweater top will transport you back to the era of lip smackers stashed in your mini backpack— cue the Spice Girls soundtrack. If you can find the “just right” mini length for your height, this look can still be office appropriate with the tights, a cute boot, and a blazer. 😉

Sweater dress – easy to throw on and look classy. Thick enough to offer some warmth in a single layer. Looks great with boots of all heights and flats too! If the sweater dress is a bit on the shorter side, pair it with a skinny jean and wear it as a long top. A simple sweater dress is a perfect blank canvas to spruce up with your own personal touches like chunky jewelry, a patterned scarf, or adding an open cardigan or wrap.

Outerwear staples – I love to mix and match my outerwear with the pieces from above. You have the freedom to create your own style with the pieces that make you feel and look your best. Keep on hand a sweater (with or without buttons), a jean jacket for when there are still a few warmer days at play, a vest (puffy or quilted for those chilly winter days), and a solid beanie or hat. And let’s not forget the sleek and smooth gloves!

Outerwear pieces to invest in: a long winter coat (they may still be called stadium coats if you search for them. The long length is ideal for snowy climates), a wool peacoat, a belted trench coat, and real leather boots. NOTE: Please do not invest in all of these pieces at once. They can be pricey if you’re paying for true quality. I suggest waiting until the winter season is almost over to snag the best deals on these items when stores move them to sale or clearance to make room on their shelves.

I can’t wait to see the fall fashion looks you put together. Always remember you are beautiful and stylish in your own way. All it takes is a sweater top, pants, a cute boot, and YOU. You got this!

Now let’s get to the Hocus Pocus marathon and bring on the hot ciders! I can already smell the cinnamon pinecones calling my name …
