Prepare yourselves for the ultimate throwback. Augusta is setting the scene for a classic Norman Rockwell Christmas, as the 38th annual Candlelight Christmas Walk will light up the town.
Over 1,000 luminaries greet visitors as Santa Claus awaits at the Edelweiss Guest House and horse-drawn carriages trot around the town square.
Warm yourselves by the bonfire or shop the night away on the first two Fridays in December from 5pm to 10pm.
With a setting amidst historic houses, churches, art galleries, museums and a National Park this world-class event includes more than a dozen free performances by famed local and regional musicians, a magician, free crafts for children and adults, historical dancers, historical lectures, an Art Guild show, elegant receptions at various historic sites, a tree-trimming and a live nativity. Also back this year is Le Reveillon, a French Christmas celebrating food, customs and decorations of an early 1800’s Christmas Eve.
Other activities include a Christmas parade at 11 am on Saturday, caroling, colonial decorations, free pictures with Santa for the little ones, the Art Guild Art Show & Sale, downtown shop refreshments, some historic site open houses, and an old-fashioned Christmas Tree lighting ceremony on Saturday evening at the Welcome Center!
There will be FREE photos with Santa and FREE hotdogs for children 12 and under
Christmastime is magical in our German village, where holiday traditions date back centuries. Beginning with a traditional Lantern Parade just after Thanksgiving and ending with the annual ringing of the bell in the Clock Tower to usher in the New Year, Hermann has much to offer visitors of all ages.
Christmas Carriage Ride: November 30 – December 10
“Enjoy the simple pleasures of Christmas past as you tour Hermann Farm in an open-air tram. Your guide will give you the history of the beautifully decorated buildings along the way, including the 1847 Teubner-Husmann House, the Rasche Family Homestead, the Stone Horse Barn, and the Black Shire Distillery.
The Shire draft horses will be ready for your visit and pictures can be taken with these majestic animals. Refreshments will be served at the Distillery Tasting Room at the end of the tram tour.”
Make magical memories this holiday season with a cozy carriage ride in Hermann, Missouri. Enjoy a guided tour of Hermann and listen to the jolly sound of sleigh bells as the horses clip-clop through the streets of town.
Rides depart from the corner of First and Gutenberg streets (near Red Caboose & Amtrak Station). Allow approximately 25 minutes for ride, pictures and visiting with the horses. Reservations strongly suggested. Private rides for couples and small groups available.
Shop and stroll our beautiful downtown historic shopping district and collect cookies from participating businesses. Christmas attire enjoyed and appreciated! Many shops will offer specials for participants. Get your last-minute Christmas shopping completed while having fun as a family. You do not need a ticket for each family member, just one ticket gets you one shopping bag to collect cookies in. If you want more cookies, then yes, purchase additional tickets. Advanced tickets are required ($20/ea).
