Pumpkin Glow on Des Peres Pond

From 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm

“Join us at Des Peres Park for our annual pumpkin glow! At sunset (6:30 p.m.), we will launch Jack-O-Lanterns onto the pond! Bring your pre-carved creation and be a part of our magical float! Participants are welcome to bring a picnic dinner and s’mores supplies. Marshmallow roasting sticks and campfires will be available. 

Pumpkins for the float must meet the following guidelines: 

  • Click here to view the pumpkin guideline packet. 
  • Check in for pumpkins starts at 5:30 p.m.
  • Must be pre-carved
  • No more than 8 pounds once hollowed out – approximately no larger than a soccer ball
  • Must be rounder/flat (taller/skinny pumpkins will not stand up on floatation devices)
  • Must have a “top/lid” (note: pumpkins will be attached to floatation device through the base)
  • To keep the water clean, pumpkins cannot have any artificial decorations (i.e. paint, glitter, marker, food dye, paper, plastic, light bulbs, candles)
  • Pumpkins will not be returned after the float. All pumpkins will be composted.

Registration is per pumpkin. $15/Member & Resident; $18/Non-Resident. A pumpkin floatation device, glow stick and marshmallow roasting stick will be provided for each Jack-O-Lantern registered for the event. Registration deadline is 9/29.

Bring your little swimmers to dive for pumpkins at the annual Pumpkin Plunge at Renaud Center in O’Fallon, MO. Swimmers ages 1-5 can participate in the Jr. Pumpkin Plunge in the kiddle pool area from 11am – noon for $12/each. Kids ages 3-12 can participate in the regular plunge from either 5:20-6:30PM or 7-8PM for $17/each (discount available for Renaud members). Registration required, spots are limited. Register through the City of O’Fallon website starting Sept. 1.

Kids are encouraged to wear their costumes while they participate in museum exhibit trick-or-treating (candy free); Halloween-inspired spooktacular stretches; and active fun with our community collaborators, Healthworks! Kids Museum and Reedy Press. Make sure to stop by the trick-or-treat table featuring the book Missouri Weird and Wonderful by author Amanda Doyle and illustrator Dan Zettwoch. Make your own creepy, quirky crafts—and if you are extra brave, we will have limited access to our family-friendly Haunted History Clubhouse at 30-minute intervals. If you’re up for a later evening, stick around for the annual Ghost Stories and Guitars concert from 6:30pm to 8:00pm.

Costumes are welcome for all, but please do not bring pretend weapons.

  • Camper Judging
    Any camper who wants to participate in the Halloween decorating contest will be rated by a panel of judges. The winner will be announced later that night. Judging starts in the campground at 8 p.m.

See Alton’s scariest costumes and comical characters with over 40 participants including floats, bands and costumed marchers! Alton Illinois boasts one of the oldest Halloween parades in the United States- you don’t want to miss one of the spookiest parades in one of America’s most haunted towns!

PARADE ROUTE

The parade will begin at the corner of Washington Avenue and Broadway and continue on Broadway to Piasa Street. The parade will then turn right onto Piasa to 9th Street.

Legends & Lanterns®, a “spirited” journey through Halloween History is an annual event that finds its inspiration from the past.

From the vintage charm of Halloween in the 1910s-1930s, to the historical rituals and customs brought to the holiday by the Druids and Victorians, to the ethereal atmosphere depicted in American ghost stories and Brothers Grimm fairy tales; this event will offer treats and tricks for guests of all ages. A little bit silly. A little bit macabre. But all in fun.
